A new study published online Jan. 13 in The Lancet shows that patients with high blood pressure respond better to a combination drug therapy than those on monotherapy. Also patients who undergo the two-drug treatment after taking the single-drug therapy also experience better blood pressure outcomes, though not at the same level as those who began with the combination treatment, according to research.
The "Treatment for Adolescents with Depression Study" (TADS), reported in this week's Journal of the American Medical Association, is the first multi- center, randomized clinical effectiveness trial to review a combination of treatments for the types of adolescent depression likely to be treated in routine community-based practice settings.
Careful documentation of a hospice patient's end-of-life wishes - and prominently noting that information in health records early - could prevent unwanted hospitalizations and medical interventions, a new study suggests.
The majority of observational studies have shown that alcohol intake, especially heavy drinking, increases a number of upper-aero-digestive tract (UADT) and other cancers, and even moderate drinking is associated with a slight increase in the risk of breast cancer.
