No cure exists for frontotemporal dementia, which strikes between the ages of 40 and 64 and accounts for at least one in four cases of early-onset dementia. Baby-Friendly USA announced this week that Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital has received prestigious international recognition as a Baby-Friendly designated birth facility. A hospital can only be deemed "Baby-Friendly" after the completion of a rigorous onsite assessment survey and a final review of the External Review Board.
"Extending the Cure," a research project of the Center for Disease Dynamics, Economics & Policy that looks at antibiotic resistance, on Wednesday launched a map "designed to be a tool for public health, researchers, doctors, the media and the public to track resistant pathogens, which is a growing problem around the world," the Washington Post's "The Checkup" blog reports.
This is a follow up study to one released last Thursday in the New England Journal of Medicine on the effects of antidepressants in the treatment of bipolar disorder. Both studies, called STEP-BD, were funded by the National Institute of Mental Health.
