Intensive adherence counseling around the time of HIV treatment initiation significantly reduces poor adherence and virologic treatment failure in sub-Saharan Africa, according to a recent study in PLoS Medicine by Dr. Michael Chung, assistant professor of Global Health at University of Washington, who works at the Coptic Hope Center for Infectious Diseases in Nairobi, Kenya.
Is obesity in infants "programmed" in the womb? Previously, researchers assumed that consumption of "bad" fats during pregnancy contribute to excessive infant adipose tissue growth and that "good" omega-3 fatty acids prevent expansive adipose tissue development. A study run by the Technische Universit-t M-nchen showed no evidence to support this "perinatal programming" theory.
Global health insurer Allianz Worldwide Care has announced the launch of a new plan which offers a compliant solution for onshore healthcare to shipping companies affected by the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 (MLC 2006), commonly known as the "Seafarers' Bill of Rights". MLC 2006, which came into force in August 2013, requires shipping companies to provide comprehensive rights and protection to the world's 1.2 million seafarers, including the provision of a minimum level of healthcare cover.

This observed improvement in progression-free survival without impairment of health-related quality of life was considered a meaningful result.
