In an advance that could help ease health and environmental concerns about the emerging nanotechnology industry, scientists are reporting development of technology for changing the behavior of nanoparticles in municipal sewage treatment plants - their main gateway into the environment. Their study will be published online November 12 in ACS' journal Environmental Science & Technology.
Current research suggests that nitric oxide may play a role in the pathogenesis of neonatal meningitis. The related report by Mittal et al, "Inhibition of inducible nitric oxide controls pathogen load and brain damage by enhancing phagocytosis of Escherichia coli K1 in neonatal meningitis," appears in the March 2010 issue of The American Journal of Pathology.
The Detroit Medical Center Cardiovascular Institute has implemented a ground-breaking new medical technology designed to protect patients with diabetes-related arterial disease from the risk of foot or leg amputation.
Loughborough University academics are to conduct research as part of a large-scale international project investigating whether personalized breast cancer screening is a better screening option for women aged 40 to 70.
