ProBuild Company LLC, one of the nation's largest suppliers of building materials to professional contractors, continued its commitment to further cancer and diabetes research by hosting its 2010 Charity Golf Tournament at The Omni Interlocken Resort and Hotel in Broomfield, Colo. ProBuild and its supply partners from across the Rocky Mountain Region together raised more than $275,000 for City of Hope, one of the nation's leading research and treatment centers for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases.
The USC Mark and Mary Stevens Neuroimaging and Informatics Institute (USC Stevens INI), part of the Keck School of Medicine of USC, has launched a $3 million study that will unite researchers and data from 20 countries to answer some of the most pressing questions about Parkinson's disease (PD).
Qnexa took a step closer to approval on Wednesday, when outside advisers to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration voted 20-to-2 in favor of approval. The panel also recommended the company conduct a study to scrutinize even more closely any risk of heart problems. That study may be required after the drug is approved. Should the FDA ask for further data on heart risks before any approval, it would delay Qnexa's launch further.
More than one in four elderly patients was given potentially hazardous medication during 2007. That is the conclusion of a study by Ute Amann and her co-authors in the current issue of the Deutsches Ärzteblatt International.
Thirteen graduate students from institutes throughout North America have been chosen to receive the 2014 Harold M. Weintraub Graduate Student Award sponsored by the Basic Sciences Division of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
