The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says two more companies have recalled their products, because they may contain spinach linked to a food poisoning outbreak, which has caused serious illness and at least one death.
Clear Catheter Systems, Inc., a Bend, Oregon-based medical device company, announced today that it has received US Food and Drug Administration clearance for its innovative PleuraFlow™ Active Tube Clearance System. This is a device that can be widely deployed in the post operative management of patients requiring heart and lung surgery.
Cigarette smoking among drug dependent pregnant women is alarmingly high, estimated at 77 to 99%. Programs that treat pregnant patients for substance use disorders often fail to address cigarette smoking despite the clear risks to both mother and child, including ectopic pregnancy, spontaneous abortion, preterm delivery, low birth weight, and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. However, programs to help people quit smoking do not seem to interfere with drug abuse treatment, and may actually improve drug abstinence rates.
Antidepressants may cause problems in patients with bipolar disorder only when they are used in isolation, research suggests.
Injuries are the leading cause of death and disability for younger people in Washington and are largely preventable. During the summer months, there are more deaths and hospitalizations due to injury.
