In a series of recently published studies using animals and people, Johns Hopkins Medicine researchers say they have further characterized a set of chemical imbalances in the brains of people with schizophrenia related to the chemical glutamate.
GlobalNet Services, Inc., a premier information technology provider for businesses and the Federal government, today announced that it had been awarded a $14 million contract to support the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Unified Registration and Listing System (FURLS). This five-year contract, which includes one base year and four option years, supports federal initiatives that require all facilities, which manufacture, process or hold FDA-regulated products to be registered with the Agency.
The U.S. Supreme Court's "sensible" 8-1 ruling in the case of Reigel v. Medtronic, stating that medical devices approved by FDA are exempt from product liability lawsuits in state courts, "makes sense for many reasons" but has "nonetheless sent up yowls" from Democratic members of Congress who have proposed the Medical Device Safety Act (S 3398, HR 6381) to overturn the ruling, a Wall Street Journal editorial states.
Medicaid is expected to save billions of dollars a year as patents for several blockbuster antipsychotic medications expire and use of generic versions of these drugs increases, according to a new study by researchers at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. These savings may provide relief from the high costs of these medications and allow policymakers to lift restrictions on patients' access, the researchers argue.
