The novel beta-coronavirus virus, severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), and coronaviruses, in general, alter the host's cellular metabolism to support massive production of ~30 kB viral genomes and subgenomic viral RNAs. However, how this is achieved is largely unknown.
Oncologists have had their hands tied because more than half of all human cancers have mutations that disable a protein called p53. As a critical anti-cancer watchdog, p53 masterminds several cancer-fighting operations within cells. When cells lose p53, tumors grow aggressively and often cannot be treated.
A study published in the October issue of Nature Genetics demonstrates that loss of the tumor-suppressor protein p53, coupled with elimination of the DNA-maintenance protein ATR, severely disrupts tissue maintenance in mice.
Researchers have developed a risk calculator to provide personalized risk estimates of developing kidney failure after donation.
NIDEK CO., LTD., a global leader in the design, manufacture, and distribution of ophthalmic, optometric, and lens edging equipment, is pleased to announce the launch of AngioScan OCT Angiography that enables visualization of retinal and choroidal microvasculature and blood flow with the RS-3000 Advance OCT.
