Two previously unassociated proteins known to be overly active in a variety of cancers bind together to ignite and sustain malignant brain tumors, a research team led by scientists at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center reports this week in the journal Cancer Cell.
Cancer patients can survive longer under treatments based on their individual genetic profiles, according to a nationwide study released jointly today by Phoenix-area healthcare organizations.
A team of researchers from the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medicine Centre's Viral Research and Experimental Medicine Centre found that immune cells undergoing stress and an altered metabolism are the reasons why some individuals become sick from viral infections while others do not, when exposed to the same virus.
Results from a multinational phase II study presented today at the International Liver CongressTM 2010 have shown that treatment with the caspase inhibitor GS-9450 can reduce markers of liver damage in patients with non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH - the most serious form of non-alcoholic liver disease) as demonstrated by reduced levels of alanine and aspartate aminotransferases, hepatic enzymes that indicate cell damage.
MMRGlobal, Inc. and VisiInc PLC (VZJ) have entered into an agreement to launch MMRGlobal's patented consumer and professional health IT products and services, including MMRPro for healthcare professionals (www.mmrprovideos.com) and the MyMedicalRecords Personal Health Record (PHR) (www.mmrvideos.com), on the Visi™ platform utilizing the Vistime product. Initially, the two companies will collaborate on offering products and services jointly to the health technology market in Australia, which is currently projected to be as much as $2.4 billion this year.
