While medical researchers continue the search for advanced diagnosis, prevention and treatment of dementia, a researcher at Royal Holloway, University of London is focusing on improving the experiences of those already suffering with the devastating disease for whom any cure would be too late.
A new study has found that cystic fibrosis patients who have a common virus may experience faster disease progression than patients who do not have the virus. Signs of faster cystic fibrosis disease progression included earlier times to lung transplant referral and reaching the final stages of the disease.
Health Care REIT, Inc. announced today that it completed $292.9 million of gross investments during the second quarter of 2010. During the quarter, the company had dispositions of $14.6 million, resulting in net new investments of $278.3 million. For the six months ended June 30, 2010, the company completed $877.6 million of gross investments, offset by $47.5 million of asset sales and loan payoffs, which generated $830.1 million of net new investments.
In some ways, certain tumors resemble bee colonies, says pathologist Tan Ince. Each cancer cell in the tumor plays a specific role, and just a fraction of the cells serve as "queens," possessing the unique ability to maintain themselves in an unspecialized state and seed new tumors. These cells can also divide and produce the "worker" cells that form the bulk of the tumor.
