Cambridge Heart, Inc., today announced that results of a clinical study presented at the 29th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Belgian Society of Cardiology in Brussels, Belgium, reinforce the value of the Microvolt T-wave Alternans (MTWA) as an accurate non-invasive test to identify patients at risk of arrhythmic events and sudden cardiac death (SCD).
More than twice as many lungs and nearly 50 percent more kidneys could be recovered for transplant operations if intensive care physicians were to work with organ procurement organization (OPO) coordinators to monitor and manage donor bodies after brain death has occurred, according to an analysis by UPMC and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine physicians that is now in the online version of the American Journal of Transplantation.
Although Uganda had many achievements to celebrate on the anniversary of its independence on Wednesday, the country must "focus on independence on the individual level," especially among women affected by HIV/AIDS in the country, Milly Nattimba of the Makerere University School of Public Health writes in a New Vision opinion piece.
Researchers used a new imaging technique to take high quality color photographs of the clinical stages of ocular inflammation in mice, and the technology could help in the monitoring and treatment of diseases of the eye that may cause blindness.
A brain-preserving cooling treatment called therapeutic hypothermia is a cost-effective way to improve outcomes after out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, which claims the lives of more than 300,000 people each year in the United States and leaves thousands of others neurologically devastated.
