A multi-center team of researchers are planning a clinical trial using cardiosphere-derived cells (CDCs) (a heterogeneous cluster of proliferating cardiac cells that include mesenchymal stem cells) to regenerate the tissue and improve function of the heart in patients who have suffered heart attacks (myocardial infarction, MI).
A new study finds a decrease in an emergent strain of methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) that is resistant to last line defense antibiotics. Researchers examined the prevalence of vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (VRSA) infections in southeastern Michigan, where the majority of these infections have occurred in the U.S.
In the largest study of its kind, pediatric researchers at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia have received a federal contract for a project to determine the most beneficial method of using antibiotics to treat urinary tract infections (UTIs) in children.
