AVEO Pharmaceuticals, Inc. has announced findings from its novel human-in-mouse (HIM) cancer model system, in which AVEO successfully created invasive human tumors from primary human breast tissue that develop over time in mice and mimic human tumor behaviors and response.
Results of EORTC trial 10853 appearing in the Journal of Clinical Oncology show that breast conserving treatment combined with radiotherapy reduces the risk of local recurrence in women with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).
When Derrik Neal began having trouble breathing, he initially assumed it was because he was overweight. But after blacking out several times, he learned he had idiopathic pulmonary hypertension. Survival rates at the time he was diagnosed were five years or less - three or less if undetected.
There are several studies that show that obese people are likely to outlive normal weight individuals. This is called the "obesity paradox" and researchers have tried to understand the reasons behind this. A new study disproves this theory and finds that obese and overweight people do not live longer than people who have a healthy body weight.
