Pregnant women who receive treatment for substance abuse early in their pregnancy can achieve the same health outcomes as pregnant women with no substance abuse, according to a Kaiser Permanente study published online in the Journal of Perinatology.
Physician scientists at the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital (THI at St. Luke's) have been awarded a grant of almost $1.5 million by the National Institutes of Health for research into treatments for patients with end-stage heart failure that would combine heart-assist devices and adult stem-cell treatments.
The House voted largely along party lines Thursday to permanently end annual cuts in doctors' Medicare payments, which the Congress has temporarily averted from year to year, the Associated Press reports. The legislation would add more than $200 billion to the deficit, and Republicans "contended that Democrats supported the bill to thank the [American Medical Association] for backing President Barack Obama's health care overhaul."
Roche announced today the FDA approval of a new pre-analytical instrument that provides an integrated primary tube handling solution for its widely adopted automated molecular testing platform.
The protein hCNT1, which plays a major role in nucleoside transport, may have other biological functions that may affect cancer cells physiology, apart from their transport function. This is the main conclusion of the new scientific work published on the journal Cell Death and Disease.
