Streptococcus pneumoniae is a major human pathogen and is known to be associated with increased risk of fatal heart complications including heart failure and heart attacks.
Statins are a class of drugs often used to control high cholesterol levels in obesity. Now, a study published on the preprint server medRxiv* in July 2020 suggests that statins do not aggravate the risk of COVID-19 infection and may have a small beneficial effect in some cases.
An oral cholera vaccine given as part of routine health services is safe and protects against severe cholera in children and adults in urban Bangladesh where the disease is endemic, according to the first real-life trial of this vaccine published in The Lancet.
The bill also allocates $5 million more from what is known as the Mental Health Risk Pool. The pool was created about a decade ago to keep counties with financial shortfalls from denying care to people with mental disorders or retardation. Linn County, for example, will receive $1.2 million of the extra money.
Imaging Diagnostic Systems, Inc., a pioneer in laser optical breast imaging, announced today that the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing Therapeutic Goods Administration has approved the CT Laser Mammography (CTLM®) system for inclusion on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG).
