Value in Health, the official journal of ISPOR- the professional society for health economics and outcomes research, announced today the publication of a series of articles investigating the use of health technology assessment in healthcare decision making across the globe.
The New York Times reports that a "rogue cancer unit" at a veteran's hospital in Philadelphia "operated with virtually no outside scrutiny and botched 92 of 116 [prostate] cancer treatments over a span of more than six years - and then kept quiet about it, according to interviews with investigators, government officials and public records."
Using an innovative technique combining genetic analysis and mathematical modeling with some basic sleuthing, researchers have identified previously undescribed microlesions in brain tissue from epileptic patients. The millimeter-sized abnormalities may explain why areas of the brain that appear normal can produce severe seizures in many children and adults with epilepsy.
The Registered Nurses Association of Ontario has recognized two St. Michael's nursing leaders for outstanding leadership. Ella Ferris, executive vice-president, programs, and chief nursing and health disciplines executive, received the Leadership Award in Nursing Administration.
Several weeks following the publication of the large real-world Covid-19 vaccine effectiveness study by the Clalit Research Institute in Collaboration with Harvard University in the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), additional results focusing on vaccine effectiveness in specific sub-populations have now been published.
