Cardiovascular Systems, Inc. has launched its second-generation product, the Diamondback Predator 360° PAD System, for the treatment of peripheral arterial disease (PAD). The new device uses the same mechanism of action as the clinically proven Diamondback 360 PAD System with improvements in the crowns and shaft for enhanced clinical performance and shorter procedure times.
"Cholera cases have risen in Haiti, but the number dying from the disease is down, according to researchers from the [CDC]," CNN's health blog "The Chart" reports. Robert Tauxe, researcher and deputy director at CDC said, "The number of deaths was initially way too high. But within a few weeks of the outbreak, we trained teams to treat the disease and increased access to supplies," according to the blog.
Zika virus, feared for causing microcephaly in babies whose mothers were infected during pregnancy by attacking the cells that will give rise to the fetus's cerebral cortex, could be an alternative for treatment of glioblastoma, the most common and aggressive kind of malignant brain tumor in adults.
A robust new breed of blood-sucking bed bugs are on the rise in Britain, and experts fear the "super" pests cannot be killed.
The general anesthesia that puts patients into unconscious sleep so they do not feel surgical pain can increase the discomfort they feel once they wake up, say researchers from Georgetown University Medical Center.
