The Stowers Institute's Workman Lab has shed new light on a novel histone acetyltransferase protein complex called ATAC.
Orthovita, Inc., an orthobiologics and biosurgery company, reported financial results for the quarter ended June 30, 2010. Product sales for the second quarter of 2010 were $23.9 million compared to $24.5 million for the second quarter of 2009. Product sales for the second quarter of 2009 included $0.6 million from the sale of Vitomatrix™, a bone graft material used in dental products. There were no Vitomatrix sales in the second quarter of 2010 and no further sales of Vitomatrix are currently expected.
Researchers in Britain say that the old fashioned idea that heat relieves pain does have some truth in it and hugging a hot-water bottle can have a similar effect to a painkiller.
Since the introduction of statins to treat high cholesterol, the decline in lipid levels experienced by the wealthy has been double that experienced by the poor. While statins are highly effective in reducing cholesterol and improving heart health, their use may have contributed to expanding social disparities in the treatment of cardiovascular disease, according to research by Virginia W. Chang, MD, PhD, of the Philadelphia Veterans Affairs Medical Center and the University of Pennsylvania, and Diane S. Lauderdale, PhD, of the University of Chicago, published in the September issue of Journal of Health and Social Behavior.
The L.A. Gay and Lesbian Center has launched an advertisement campaign that describes HIV as a "gay disease" in an effort to target men who have sex with men who have become complacent about HIV/AIDS, the Los Angeles Times reports.
