A new study published on November 19, 2019, in the journal Cell Reports, shows how the body's immune system responds to malaria, which in turn promises to teach scientists how to design more effective therapies for a range of illnesses that are modulated by the immune response.
The National Eye Institute has awarded Jackson Laboratory Professor Patsy Nishina, Ph.D., and Associate Professor Gregory Carter, Ph.D., a four-year grant totaling $2,414,304 to study diseases of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), with the goal of identifying druggable targets for age-related macular degeneration and other heritable retinal diseases.
Researchers at Lund University in Sweden believe they have found a method that in the future could help people suffering from epilepsy so severe that all current treatment is ineffective.
Now fast food outlets are sending direct mailers to kids under the age of 12 as part of online marketing campaigns to pre-teens that include special offers, free food vouchers and competitions. Outlet names like Hungry Jacks and Taco Bill Mexican Restaurants have come up in a submission to a Senate inquiry on privacy laws made by a coalition of some of the country's peak health bodies.
