A new University of Saskatchewan training program that will produce future leaders in food safety, infectious disease control and public policy has been awarded $1.65 million over six years through the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council's Collaborative Research and Training Experience (CREATE) program.
Results of an advanced clinical trial of an antiretroviral-based microbicide candidate are being announced at the International AIDS Conference in Vienna, Austria. The CAPRISA 004 trial, which tested the safety and effectiveness of 1% tenofovir gel among nearly 900 women at two sites in South Africa, found that using the gel before and after sex provided moderate protection against sexually transmitted HIV.
A team led by Purdue University researchers is the first to determine the structure of the Zika virus, which reveals insights critical to the development of effective antiviral treatments and vaccines.
Three McMaster University experts have developed a successful weight management tool in the form of a workbook which uses cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) to achieve lasting weight loss, with the goal being health - physical health, psychological healthy and a healthy relationship with food and the body instead of an obsession with numbers.
