New insight on how antibiotics affect the gut microbiome - the community of microbes that live inside us - has been published in the journal eLife.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, is associated with increased risk of dying from a cardiovascular disease such as heart failure or a heart attack, as well as diseases not associated with the heart. However, COPD is not by itself associated with increased likelihood of having a stroke or a systemic embolism, according to a new research study.
A University of Southampton scientist has just been awarded more than £58,000 by Alzheimer's Research UK to study chemical signals in the brain in Alzheimer's disease. The research will study the chemical signals that control learning and memory in an attempt to understand more about Alzheimer's and search for new treatments.
Patients can assess their own back pain using an app on their phone or tablet as effectively as current paper methods, a new study from the University of Warwick has shown.
The World Health Organization (WHO) has published guidelines for the cultivation and collection of Artemisia (Artemisia annua L., Asteraceae), known in the United States as sweet Annie or annual wormwood, a Chinese traditional medicinal plant which is the source of artemisinin, used to produce the most effective medicines for malaria.
