Scripps Research Institute scientists have discovered a new way to target and destroy a type of cancerous cell. The findings may lead to the development of new therapies to treat lymphomas, leukemias, and related cancers.
Member states at the 65th session of the World Health Assembly, which concluded last week, "agreed to adopt a global target of a 25 percent reduction in premature mortality from non-communicable diseases [NCDs] such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory diseases by 2025."
The first report of the presence of alternative lengthening of telomeres (ALT) in cancers arising from the bladder, cervix, endometrium, esophagus, gallbladder, liver, and lung was published today in The American Journal of Pathology. The presence of ALT in carcinomas can be used as a diagnostic marker and has implications for the development of anti-cancer drug therapies.
Life Technologies Corporation a provider of innovative life science solutions, today announced the launch of the 5500xl SOLiD Sequencer, a new instrument designed to deliver the industry's fastest and most accurate genomic data for cancer biology and genetic disease research.
Snoring affects most people at least occasionally and can often indicate the presence of allergies or a respiratory infection. Snoring that is extremely loud leads to breathing interruptions or results in choking sensations that may indicate the presence of a common sleep disorder called sleep apnea.
