USANA Health Sciences, Inc., a global nutritional supplements company, today announced the official opening of its France and Belgium markets. Bringing the company's international expansion to 18 countries worldwide, USANA's newest office will reside on the Champs-Elysees in Paris and will initially offer seven nutritional supplements and eight skin-care products.
One traditional approach to pharmaceutical design uses so-called "first messengers" – hormones, other natural facilitators or synthetic products – to initiate various cellular cascades for the desired physiological effect. To date, despite concerted efforts at all levels of research, this approach has failed to develop a truly successful obesity drug to address this major global health problem.
Understanding the cellular building blocks of the brain, including the number and diversity of cell types, is a fundamental step toward understanding brain function. Researchers at the Allen Institute for Brain Science have created a detailed taxonomy of cells in the mouse visual cortex based on single-cell gene expression, identifying 49 distinct cell types in the largest collection of individual adult cortical neurons characterized by gene expression published to date.
