Recently, 35 children with ADHD completed the Cincinnati Children's Summer Treatment Program (STP), a seven week program providing intensive behavioral interventions within a fun-filled camp setting.
"With Republicans fighting the idea of a government-run health insurance plan, members of President Barack Obama's team said Sunday that they are open to a compromise: a cooperative program that would expand coverage with taxpayer money but without direct governmental control," the Associated Press reports. The non-profit, health insurance cooperatives were suggested in Congress by Sen. Kent Conrad, D-N.D., and HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said the concession could be a path to bipartisan health reform legislation (Elliott, 6/15).
The Obama administration issued regulations yesterday addressing a top consumer gripe with health insurers: The rejected claim. "Rejection notices are often unclear, as are the procedures for challenging them." The new regulations are "designed to simplify the process and expand consumers' rights, as required by the recently enacted healthcare law." Current appeals rules differ by insurer. The regulations will standardize the process, allowing consumers to first take their complaints to the insurer, and then to an independent review panel (Levey, 7/22).
Researchers at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, have received a grant from the American Hearing Research Foundation to conduct a pilot study of genetic hearing screening for newborns at the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin to ensure the test can be performed and results shared with the parents in a timely and meaningful way.
