Massachusetts labor leaders have given up their full-throated battle to protect certain collective bargaining rights amid an increasing likelihood that the Legislature will empower local governments to raise the health insurance costs of teachers, firefighters, and other municipal employees.
The United States Patent and Trademark Office has awarded Glytec two more patent allowances acknowledging the unique characteristics of its disruptive innovations.
Biovail Corporation today commented on a proposed clinical trial recently announced by Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. According to Teva, the trial is intended to address reports of inefficacy and adverse events by consumers who switched from Wellbutrin XL® 300 mg, Biovail's FDA-approved brand of the antidepressant, bupropion hydrochloride, to Budeprion XL, Teva's generic formulation of the drug. The trial was described in a Dow Jones Newswire article dated December 2, 2009.
A new national study by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) reveals that Hispanic-American adults have lower levels of current alcohol use than the national average (46.1 percent versus 55.2 percent). Hispanic-American adults also have lower levels of current illicit drug use than the national average (6.6 percent versus 7.9 percent), but a slightly higher level of current binge drinking (26.3 percent versus 24.5 percent).
Lower health spending because of slower Medicaid enrollment growth is good news for Minnesota's budget. In Virginia, however, Democrats say a GOP budget doesn't spend enough on health care.
