St. Jude Children's Research Hospital solves mystery of enzyme's role in cell survival, offering clues of how immune system fights infection and possible strategies to treat problems ranging from heart attack to cancer.
This year, the American Cancer Society estimates over 230,000 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women.
Angioedema is characterized by episodes of intense localized edema involving the skin, visceral organs, and airway, causing discomfort and even death as a result of airway obstruction. There are a number of therapies available for the prevention and treatment of angioedema, and new therapies are being studied to further minimize the effect of acute attacks on this patient population.
The Ebola virus produces widely varying reactions, from asymptomatic illness to death, in people depending on the individual's susceptibility. But what drives this difference in response? A new study published in the journal Cell Reports on February 2020 goes one step further in understanding how the immune system reacts to the virus causing varying levels of severity of disease between cases.
The Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai joins a top-flight network of 25 regional stroke centers announced by the National Institute of Health that will focus on prevention, treatment, and recovery from stroke. As part of the NIH Stroke Trials Network (NIHStrokeNet), the medical school will receive a 5-year, $1.3 million grant to build a collaborative research infrastructure for a regional coordinating stroke center.
