Throughout history, humans have been obsessed with finding a way to prevent aging and prolong life. Although the mechanisms have long eluded us, modern science is revealing more and more about the aging process. Now, researchers from Japan have uncovered new information about the genetic processes that may trigger age-related disorders, including low energy production and low cellular growth.
At the Global Poverty Summit January 16-19 in Johannesburg, South Africa, "academics, policy-makers, civil society activists and development workers ... agreed that the [U.N. Millennium Development Goals] MDGs have made a difference, but have fallen far short of the ambitious targets on poverty, education, health, gender equality and global partnership that 189 countries committed to achieving by 2015," IRIN reports.
Hot fudge sundaes and french fries aside, new research suggests obesity is due at least in part to an attraction between leptin, the hormone that signals the brain when to stop eating, and a protein more recently associated with heart disease.
On the campaign trail, GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney takes a hard line against the heatlh law, saying it needs to be undone no matter what the court determines. But on the eve of the expected high court ruling, a 2006 video emerged in which then-Gov. Romney embraced the individual mandate as part of Massachusetts' state reforms. Meanwhile, the court's finding is expected to become a fund-raising boon for both presidential candidates.
Most dermatologists would agree that premature skin aging can result from sun over-exposure, poor antioxidant intake, and excess free-radical production. Additionally, regarding hair health, about 20 million U.S. women experience premature hair-loss and hair-thinning. Natrol, Inc., a premier marketer, manufacturer, and distributor of nationally branded nutritional products, now offers two new beauty nutraceuticals that help provide anti-aging skin and hair support for women - one dietary supplement helps optimize skin radiance via antioxidant protection for the skin, and another helps maximize follicular growth for hair.
