Researchers at Weill Cornell Medical College have developed a computer program that has tracked the manner in which different forms of dementia spread within a human brain. They say their mathematic model can be used to predict where and approximately when an individual patient's brain will suffer from the spread, neuron to neuron, of "prion-like" toxic proteins - a process they say underlies all forms of dementia.
An international team led by researchers at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine reports that a single injection of human neural stem cells produced neuronal regeneration and improvement of function and mobility in rats impaired by an acute spinal cord injury.
Today at Legacy's Warner Series Lecture on the impact of the Family and Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act (Food and Drug Administration authority over tobacco), Dr. David Kessler, former commissioner of the FDA, called on the FDA to reduce the nicotine level in cigarettes, reducing the yield to non-addictive levels.
ARMGO Pharma and the Muscular Dystrophy Association today announced that $1 Million has been awarded for preclinical work in support of an Investigational New Drug application with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for ARM210, a novel, orally available, small-molecule Rycal drug that has potential as a treatment for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
