An immune reaction in the brain seems to play a major role in the development of Alzheimer's disease. In a way, it "adds fuel to the fire" and apparently causes an inflammation that, in a sense, keeps kindling itself. The study has now been published in the journal Cell Reports.
Before news of the November 5, Fort Hood shootings reached the public, oral and maxillofacial surgeons Major Mark E. Ranschaert, DMD and Major Joseph Dylan Bowles, DDS were in Fort Hood's Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center emergency room working to save the lives of the shooter's victims.
Our brain pays more attention to food when we are hungry than when we are sated. Now a team of scientists at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center has shed light on how the needs of the body affect the way the brain processes visual food cues.
A sepsis awareness and management programme has demonstrated overall success in terms of improved sepsis detection, but has led to an increase in the number of E. coli blood stream infection cases presented, calling into question the targets used by Health Boards and set by the Welsh Government.
