Postmenopausal women who regularly sleep more than nine hours a night may have an increased risk of ischemic stroke, researchers reported in Stroke: Journal of the American Heart Association.
Sunless tanners like creams and sprays that fake a tan may reduce their sunbathing time and tanning bed use, according to a new study. "Using the sunless tanners can change tanning behaviors," says researcher Suephy C. Chen, associate professor of dermatology at Emory University School of Medicine. "People who used the sunless tanners decreased the number of times they laid out or went to tanning booths."
The Obama administration has set aside $19B for physicians to adopt electronic medical record systems. Today, 75% of doctors practice in offices with 10 doctors or fewer. For them, the investment is cost-prohibitive: the technology costs from $25,000 to over $75,000. Not surprisingly, only 17% of physicians use computerized records, according to the New York Journal of Medicine. Yet, one service provider allows physicians to switch to electronic medical records - free - and make their practice more profitable.
"Now, we are in the Third-Generation of AIDS programming, in which the focus must be on a sustainable, health systems response, especially in the countries most affected by HIV & AIDS," Jonathan Quick, president and CEO of Management Sciences for Health, writes on the organization's "Global Health Impact" blog.
A large new study posted on the preprint server medRxiv describes the seropositivity rate to this virus, as well as the persistence of antibodies over time, both neutralizing and others.
