Lancet series revisits issue of global mental health four years after first examination

Taiwan's HBV immunization program for newborns lowers chronic HBV carriers, incidence of HCC

"Hepatitis B virus infection causes infant fulminant hepatitis, and chronic HBV infection may progress to chronic liver disease and hepatocellular carcinoma. Taiwan launched a nationwide HBV immunization program for newborns in July 1984, which has successfully lowered the prevalence of chronic HBV carriers, incidence of HCC, and mortality of IFH in vaccinated birth cohorts. The mortality of CLD before and after HBV immunization has never been examined," write Chun-Ju Chiang, Ph.D., of National Taiwan University, Taipei, and colleagues.

BSGI/MBI provides additional information when conventional imaging is indeterminate in diagnosing breast cancer

Dr. Barbara Ward and others of Weinstein Imaging determined that Breast-Specific Gamma Imaging/Molecular Breast Imaging (BSGI/MBI) provides additional information when conventional imaging is indeterminate and greater confidence is required to improve diagnostic accuracy. The data from the retrospective study demonstrated that BSGI contributed significantly to patient management by detecting cancer in 7 of the 73 patients (9%), and was presented last week at the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium.
