The Henry Ford Health System — the largest provider of hospital care in the region — made $60 million last calendar year in spite of a stubborn economy and increasing costs to care for poor and uninsured people, officials announced Thursday. The system's continued success — its eighth consecutive year of financial growth — has made it the largest system in southeast Michigan in revenue and in-patient volume, said Robert Riney, president and chief operating officer for the system.
Music is listened in all known cultures. Similarities between human and animal song have been detected: both contain a message, an intention that reflects innate emotional state that is interpreted correctly even among different species.
Used for the treatment of depression that does not respond to standard antidepressant medications, the anesthesia drug ketamine – and the related drug esketamine, recently approved for depression treatment – has no important adverse effects on memory, attention, or other cognitive processes, concludes a systematic review of medical research in the September/October issue of Harvard Review of Psychiatry.
Derma Sciences, Inc., a medical device and pharmaceutical company focused on advanced wound care, announced the launch of its new XTRASORB™ Foam dressing. The dressing is the company's first novel entry in the $300 million foam wound dressing market. First sales are expected during the second quarter of 2010.
