Diet can dramatically lower hypertension and improve heart function in patients with a common type of heart failure, according to research presented at today's Heart Failure Society of America meeting in Orlando, Fla.
Chronic pain involves more than just hurting. People suffering from pain often experience sadness, depression and lethargy. That's one reason opioids can be so addictive - they not only dampen the pain but also make people feel euphoric.
Two types of guidance molecules, the attractive and the repulsive, direct the growth of nerve cells to the actual target. The designation of these molecules also describes the exclusive function that was previously attributed to them, namely to show the growing nerve fibers the way. The fundamentally new approach to the research of Prof. Dr. Schwab and his team at the Berlin-Brandenburg Center for Regenerative Therapies (BCRT) is the realization that these guidance molecules have an additional hitherto unknown role in the immune system.
New Jersey Health Foundation has awarded a $50,000 Innovation Grant to Tara Alvarez, PhD, to help create a 3-D virtual reality therapy game for children suffering with binocular vision dysfunction, announced James M. Golubieski, president.
