The North Shore-LIJ Health System announced today it is subsidizing up to 85 percent of the cost of implementing and operating an Electronic Health Records (EHR) system in the offices of its more than 7,000 affiliated physicians in New York City and Long Island - part of a $400 million investment to strengthen the quality of care throughout the region by automating inpatient and outpatient records in all medical settings, including 13 hospitals.
Scientists have pinpointed a set of common variations in human DNA that signal a higher risk for lupus in women who carry them.
Roche and Lonza announced today that they have entered into a co-exclusive distribution agreement for the commercialization of Roche's MycoTOOL mycoplasma PCR assays.
The growing threat of the H1N1 pandemic and West Nile virus - as well as other emerging zoonotic, food, or waterborne diseases and environmental changes - has prompted experts to look for solutions to the increasingly integrated problems among animal, human, and environmental health.
What's needed now is a clear, achievable plan to bring the debt and deficit under control for the long term. A crucial part of any such plan is promoting a more vigorous economy, possibly by simplifying the federal tax code. Another important piece is putting entitlements on a more sustainable path, reducing the drain on the Treasury.
