As their infants and toddlers grow, many parents may wonder if their children are walking, talking and socializing when they're supposed to be.
Swedish researchers determined that administering anti-D antibodies (immunoglobulins) to pregnant women who were Rhesus D (RhD) negative could prevent hemolytic disease in the infant.
GE Healthcare, the healthcare business of GE and Neste Jacobs, a leading global expert in plasma fractionation plant engineering design and construction, announced today that the companies have formed a strategic alliance to assist countries worldwide to become self-sufficient in the manufacture of blood plasma products.
Neisseria meningitidis, the meningococcus, is a bacterium that can cause diseases with high fatality rates, and there has therefore been considerable concern that, like other bacteria, it might become resistant to antibiotics. But now a study from örebro University and örebro University Hospital in Sweden shows that there has not been any increase in resistant meningococci in Sweden over the last 15 years. According to researcher Sara Thulin Hedberg, the reason for this may be that it is not especially advantageous for bacteria to develop resistance.
