The findings of a 12 patient study recently published in Thrombosis and Haemostasis by University Medical Center Freiburg documented that patients implanted with a ventricular assist device (VAD) experienced a rapid onset of acquired von Willebrand syndrome (AVWS), while patients implanted with the SynCardia temporary Total Artificial Heart did not.
As provisions of the ''Affordable Health Care for America Act'' continue to come into effect, there is a tremendous need for employers across the country to learn about its impact on their businesses and employees, according to the results of "Health Care Reform 360 degree," a new national study by Market Strategies International, the highly-regarded global market research and consulting firm.
Integra LifeSciences announced today a major milestone in the commercialization of the Vu a-POD™ anterior lumbar intervertebral body fusion (ALIF) device. Launched in the U.S. in early 2009, the Vu a-Pod™ fusion device has now been implanted in over 800 patients in the U.S.
Copy number variations (deletions or duplications of large chunks of the genome) are a major cause of birth defects, intellectual disability, autism spectrum disorder and other developmental disorders. Still, geneticists can definitively say how a CNV, once discovered in someone's DNA, leads to one of these conditions in just a fraction of cases.
Supportive family values and strong family bonds, in addition to the practice of monogamy, have contributed to the low prevalence of HIV/AIDS in Sri Lanka, Health Care and Nutrition Minister Nimal Siripala De Silva said recently at the second Asia Pacific Regional Meeting on universal access to HIV prevention in the Philippines, Sri Lanka's Daily News reports.
