San Francisco State University researchers have discovered a new method for testing levels of a tiny but hugely important protein - "AMPK" - in human muscle cells.
Addition of the immunostimulatory antibody elotuzumab to the combination of lenalidomide and dexamethasone improves progression-free survival and the overall response rate in patients with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma, research suggests.
Sleeping on animal fur in the first three months of life might reduce the risk of asthma in later childhood a new study has found.
Regular exercise protects the cardiovascular system by reducing risk factors such as cholesterol and blood pressure. "But we believe there are certain risk factors for cardiovascular disease that are not fully understood," says Matthias Nahrendorf, MD, PhD, of the Center for Systems Biology at MGH.
A cellulose powder has been used increasingly for many years against allergic rhinitis. Still, there has been a shortage of scientific evidence for its efficacy in seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever), particularly in children. Now, however, scientists from the Sahlgrenska Academy and the Department of Plant and Environmental Sciences at the University of Gothenburg have proven that the cellulose powder reduces symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis in children, without any adverse effects.
