A new study has demonstrated that a protein called Niemann-Pick C1 (NPC1) is critical for the Ebola virus to infect a host. The study, published in the May/June issue of mBio, the online open-access journal of the American Society for Microbiology, suggests that drugs that block NPC1 could be used to treat this deadly disease.
The Susquehanna Flats, a large bed of underwater grasses near the mouth of the Susquehanna River, virtually disappeared from the upper Chesapeake Bay after Tropical Storm Agnes more than 40 years ago.
Scioderm announced that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reviewed and allowed the investigational new drug (IND) application for SD-101 to proceed. SD-101 is a topical treatment being developed for the treatment of Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).
