Patients with diabetes mellitus have worse long-term outcomes and higher associated costs following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery than patients without diabetes, according to a study in the June 2014 issue of The Annals of Thoracic Surgery.
Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) researchers have found that melanoma patients with a family history of melanoma and/or dysplastic nevi (abnormal moles) are at high risk of developing multiple primary melanomas (MPM). Researchers recommend more intensive follow up for these high-risk patients.
Investigators reported the long-term follow-up of the largest randomized comparison between the CYPHER(R) Sirolimus-eluting Coronary Stent and Medtronic's Endeavor(R) Stent highlighting significant and sustained clinical differences. These important findings were presented at the American College of Cardiology annual meeting, (ACC 2010) in Atlanta and published on-line in the prestigious journal The Lancet.
Omeros Corporation today announced that it has submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) an investigational new drug (IND) application to initiate the Phase 2 clinical program for OMS721, the company's lead human monoclonal antibody targeting mannan-binding lectin‑associated serine protease-2 (MASP-2), the key regulator of the lectin pathway of the immune system.
Hypertension is skyrocketing in India, with rural-to-urban migrants at especially high risk. Hypertension will be a key theme at the 65th Annual Conference of the Cardiological Society of India, which takes place during 5-8 December in Bangalore, India, and features a collaborative programme with the European Society of Cardiology.
