"Crowdsourcing", the cooperation of a large number of interested nonscientists, has helped to find a new fungus from which American researchers have now isolated and characterized an unusual metabolite with interesting antitumor activity.

Labopharm Inc. today announced it has received notice from Sun Pharma Global FZE advising that Sun has submitted an Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for approval to market 100, 200 and 300 mg generic versions of Ryzolt(TM) (tramadol hydrochloride extended-release 100, 200 and 300 mg tablets) in the United States.
Ampio Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a company that discovers and develops new uses for previously approved drugs and new molecular entities, today announced that it is has completed the expanded patient enrollment phase of its Ampion In Knee (AIK) trials in Australia.
In a study conducted among 25 healthy individuals living in a controlled setting who were randomized to overconsumption of different levels of protein diets, those consuming the low-protein diet had less weight gain compared to those consuming normal and high protein diets, and calories alone, and not protein appeared to contribute to an increase in body fat, according to a study in the January 4 issue of JAMA.
