It's a major cause of death, yet few of us have ever heard of it. Sepsis occurs when a patient's immune system overreacts to an infection, triggering a potentially fatal, system-wide inflammation. Furthermore, patients in many Southern states are about twice as likely to develop sepsis for reasons unknown.

Rather, it marks the beginning of an important chapter for both science and security."
BusinessWeek: "Presuming Congress passes some version of a health-care bill and it is signed into law, some 30 million currently uninsured people will suddenly find themselves with access to doctors. But there may not be enough doctors to see them."
Researchers in the University of Georgia's Regenerative Bioscience Center are visually capturing the first process of chromosome alignment and separation at the beginning of mouse development. The findings could lead to answers to questions concerning the mechanisms leading to birth defects and chromosome instability in cancer cells.
BioLight Life Sciences Investments Ltd., a firm that invests in, manages and commercializes biomedical innovations in ophthalmology and cancer diagnostics, announces the first sale of an IOPtiMate™ system in Hong Kong.
