WuXi PharmaTech, a leading pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device research and development outsourcing company with operations in China and the United States, announced today that its Suzhou non-clinical safety testing facility received full accreditation from the Association for the Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care International (AAALAC). As a result of an extensive on-site evaluation, AAALAC determined that WuXi PharmaTech's facility meets the highest standards of animal care and research practices.
A study that included more than 45,000 residents of Sweden with rheumatoid arthritis finds that individuals with this disease had an associated higher risk of venous thromboembolism (a blood clot that forms within a vein), and that this elevated risk was stable for 10 years after the time of diagnosis, according to a study in the October 3 issue of JAMA.
Individuals with Alzheimer's disease who are hospitalized are at risk for adverse outcomes including institutionalization, cognitive decline, and death, show study results.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration today exercised its new authority under the Food and Drug Administration Amendments Act of 2007 (FDAAA) to require manufacturers of "conventional" antipsychotic drugs to make safety-related changes to prescribing information, or labeling, to warn about an increased risk of death associated with the off-label use of these drugs to treat behavioral problems in older people with dementia.
