The Fiscal Times reports that the U.S. military every year discharges more than 1,200 enlistees before their contracts are over because of weight problems. "The cost of recruiting and training all their replacements? A hefty $50,000 per person — or roughly $60 million a year." A nonprofit group of senior military leaders recently released a report that claimed weight problems are the leading medical reason recruits are rejected for service in the military.
Medicaid officials have developed methods to get around healthcare.gov's limitations in transmitting applications to state agencies, Modern Healthcare reports. But as election-year politics begin to heat up, some states continue to wrestle with the concept of expanding the low-income health insurance program.
Now, a new study published on the preprint server bioRxiv in July 2020 presents an engineered transgenic mouse that reproduces the functional and clinical characteristics of severe human SARS-CoV-2 infection.
It may soon become harder for the neediest Texans to receive medical treatment. That's because statewide regulations scheduled to go into effect Sunday would limit reimbursements paid to medical providers for patients covered by both Medicare and Medicaid. The change would impact approximately 333,000 patients, mostly elderly, low-income residents, but also younger patients who are disabled. Slashing the Medicaid co-pay was part of the plan approved by state lawmakers earlier this year to help balance the state's budget.
Incorporating telecommuting into a business continuity plan helps ensure "business as usual" during a widespread H1N1 outbreak. By giving employees the tools, policies, and procedures necessary to effectively work at home, companies ensure continuity of operations regardless of the ability of personnel to come into a centralized office location; which results in continued customer service, a continued revenue stream, and an ultimate maintenance of customer and brand loyalty.
