An increasing number of young men and women are opting for nursing as a career, says a study released Monday by the RAND Corporation. It predicts that if the growth continues, there will be enough nurses to meet national health care needs by 2030.
Shield Therapeutics, an independent specialty pharmaceutical company focused on the development of mineral-derived hospital pharmaceuticals, today announces that the US Food and Drug Administration has accepted its Investigational New Drug application to initiate a Phase 3 pivotal study of ST10, its novel oral iron-replacement therapy, for the treatment of iron deficiency anaemia in pre-dialysis patients with chronic kidney disease. The Company plans to initiate the Phase 3 study in the US in H1 2014 and positive data would be the cornerstone of a subsequent NDA submission.

"The much-anticipated ruling deals a blow to doctors and hospital officials who say caps on damages are a way to tame rising health care costs. … The court said the law violates the state's separation-of-powers clause between the branches of government by allowing lawmakers to interfere with a jury's right to determine damages."
Brazilian researchers from D'Or Institute for Research and Education, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and Federal University of Bahia have demonstrated in laboratory that apigenin, a substance found in parsley, thyme, chamomile and red pepper, improves neuron formation and strengthens the connections between brain cells.
With a little practice on a computer or iPad-25 minutes a day, 4 days a week, for 2 months-our brains can learn to see better, according to a study of University of California, Riverside baseball players reported in the Cell Press journal Current Biology on February 17.
