Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine neuroscientist Gary Landreth and colleagues reported Thursday that the drug - bexarotene quickly cleared away beta-amyloid plaque, believed to cause the cognitive deficits of Alzheimer's disease, from the brains of genetically engineered mice.
Reinforcing its position as a global leader in bringing new therapies to patients with heart and cardiovascular disease, Boston Scientific Corporation (NYSE: BSX) reported favorable results in studies related to cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT), platinum chromium stent platforms and transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR).
Salk Professor Tony Hunter, who holds an American Cancer Society Professorship, has been awarded $500,000 as part of the $1 million Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences' inaugural Sjöberg Prize for Cancer Research for "groundbreaking studies of cellular processes that have led to the development of new and effective cancer drugs."
A new study published in Circulation showed that fish oil - which contains the omega-3s EPA and DHA - did not increase perioperative bleeding in surgery patients. In fact, higher blood omega-3 levels were associated with lower risk of bleeding.
