A new study has found no increase in the incidence of brain tumours during the years immediately following the introduction of mobile phones in Nordic countries.
In this Kaiser Health News column, Austin Frakt and Rexford Santerre write: "In late August, The Wall Street Journal reported that government-owned hospitals are 'drowning in debt' due to high health care costs, high rates of uninsured patients and cuts in public payments. Some government facilities are closing while others are being sold to private-sector firms.
NinePoint Medical, Inc., an emerging leader in the development of in vivo pathology devices, today announced it has completed a $33 million Series A financing led by Third Rock Ventures and Prospect Venture Partners. The company also announced the establishment of its corporate headquarters in Cambridge, Mass. where Charles Carignan, M.D., serves as president and chief executive officer.
"I have spent my career seeking to understand and tackling deadly viruses, from ebola to HIV. But polio stands out because, unlike these diseases, we already hold the key to its eradication: effective vaccines," Peter Piot, director and professor of global health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, writes in The Guardian's "Poverty Matters" blog.
Florida Atlantic University, the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience and the Max Planck Society based in Germany, have signed an innovative agreement to facilitate a research and education program that will recruit promising scientists to MPFI and FAU.
