Depomed, Inc., a specialty pharmaceutical company, announced today that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued a complete response letter to the New Drug Application for SEFELSA, Depomed's investigational, oral, twice daily formulation of gabapentin to treat moderate to severe vasomotor symptoms due to menopause.
A team of doctors led by Karen L. Kotloff, M.D., University of Maryland School of Medicine, Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health, has performed a clinical trial involving multiple hospitals that tested the effectiveness of applying a topical antibiotic known as mupirocin for prevention of Staphylococcus aureus infection in babies in the neonatal intensive care unit.
A genetic change in the dopamine transporter - one of the brain's dopamine-handling proteins - makes it behave as if amphetamine is present and "run backward," Vanderbilt University Medical Center investigators report this week in The Journal of Neuroscience.
Nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) occurs when fat builds up in the liver. This accumulation of fat damages the liver and leads to cirrhosis. NASH is rapidly increasing in the U.S. mainly related to the epidemics of obesity and diabetes.
