The H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation is committing $1-million for emergency and medical supplies to assist relief efforts in Haiti. The donation will be made to Eisenhower Medical Center, which is currently engaged in the relief effort through Eisenhower's Emergency Physician Raul Ruiz, MD, MPP, MPH. Dr. Ruiz will facilitate the donation to Samaritan's PurseĀ®, a non-profit organization that has worked in Haiti for more than 30 years.
Focal adhesions are large specialized proteins that are located in the area where a cell membrane meets the extracellular matrix, a collection of molecules surrounding the cells that provide support and regulate micromechanical signals to the cells.
There has not been significant change in the prevalence of obesity in the U.S., with data from 2009-2010 indicating that about one in three adults and one in six children and teens are obese; however, there have been increases in certain demographics, according to two studies being published by JAMA. The studies are being released online first because of their public health importance.
The Clorox Company announced today that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approved the registration of DISPATCH Hospital Cleaner Disinfectant Towels with Bleach to kill Clostridium difficile spores in five minutes, the fastest C. difficile contact time available.
The Association for Molecular Pathology, the premier global, non-profit organization serving molecular diagnostic professionals, today published a special article in The Journal of Molecular Diagnostics titled, "Do Circulating Tumor Cells, Exosomes, and Circulating Tumor Nucleic Acids Have Clinical Utility?" The report provides a thorough overview of research to-date on the minimally invasive "liquid biopsy" approaches to cancer diagnostics.
