A major collaboration between US research centers has highlighted three factors that could ultimately determine whether an outbreak of influenza becomes a serious epidemic that threatens national health. The research suggests that the numbers in current response plans could be out by a factor of two or more depending on the characteristics of the particular pandemic influenza.
Haemonetics Corporation today reported second quarter fiscal 2014 net revenue of $235.8 million, up 8%, GAAP net income of $16.5 million and earnings per share of $0.32. Adjusted net income, exclusive of transformation, integration and deal amortization expenses detailed below, was $34.4 million, up 24%, and adjusted earnings per share were $0.66, up 24%. Excluding currency impact, net revenue was up 11% in the quarter.
Researchers at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas have identified a protein that transports the essential nutrient boron into cells, where it is important for cell growth and bone development. The findings are in the Nov. 5 edition of the journal Molecular Cell and are online.
Thirty percent of patients surveyed experienced an infection as a result of chemotherapy, 45 percent of which were associated with neutropenia or febrile neutropenia according to findings from a pan-European patient and nurse survey presented today at the 7th Annual European Oncology Nursing Society Spring Convention.
Sequella, Inc., a clinical-stage company focused on commercializing novel drugs for treatment of infectious diseases, announced it has successfully filed an Investigational New Drug (IND) application with the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to test SQ109 in patients suffering from H. pylori-related duodenal ulcers, and can now begin Phase 2 studies.
