The goal of the study was to compare whole-transcriptome, mucosal gene expression in Candida albicans (a parasitic fungus that can infect the mouth) associated chronic denture stomatitis to that of healthy oral mucosa and perform proteomic analyses of potential salivary biomarkers. Denture stomatitis is a condition in which the mucosa underneath a denture becomes inflamed and sometimes painful.

Rudd vs Abott health debate

During yesterday's 75-minute debate between the Prime Minister and Tony Abbott at the National Press Club in Canberra, Mr Rudd conceded that small regional and rural hospitals might have to be given block funding grants to keep them afloat should they not be be able to survive on his new activity-based funding formula.

Up to 10% of patients who are hospitalized or undergo surgery will experience acute kidney injury, and as many as 50% of patients in intensive care units will meet the criteria for AKI, the National Kidney Foundation has determined. Some of these patients will progress to kidney failure within months.
